Dudes and Dudettes....CORKY CARROLL

1.) At what age did you begin surfing and tell us a little about how you got started, and what was it like getting on a board for the first time?

I started at about 7 years old when the boards were balsawood and weighed more than I did. First time was obviously addicting and I figure eliminated college as a future choice in my life.

I grew up in Surfside, which is a small beach colony just north of Huntington Beach in Southern California. Living on the beach would probably being about the same as growing up in a Tennis Club if you were a tennis player. We all surfed and other in the water activities all the time. I was lucky.

I have great memories from my childhood in Florida of our week-long, family vacations to the beach every summer. I wanted to be a surfer, mostly because i thought surfers were cool. Mostly i body-boarded with my mom and sister; we used to buy those cheap styrofoam short boards. I loved the sensation of catching the wave, being swept along smoothly and swiftly to the shore. I remember my mom laughing a lot whe a big wave would come and she'd get sand all inside her bathing suit. Crescent Beach Rules!!!

That sounds nice man. Other people's child hood memories always takes me back a little too. One of the things I used to love to do in Guam was take some beer down to Teragi Beach, make a "sand recliner" and just watch the sun go down.
